Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
The children recently celebrated Theodore Geisel's birthday with our classroom Read-In. Wearing pajamas and slippers we snuggled in cozy spots around our classroom and read our favorite Dr. Seuss books.  We invited Ms. Sideri's first graders and enjoyed our time together with our new reading buddies.  We are very grateful to my friend and former principal, Mrs. O'Leary for being our Surprise Reader to kick off Dr. Seuss' birthday. My Many Colored Days has fast become a new classroom favorite.  Our classroom door has been decorated with a Dr. Seuss theme and each of the students has written what they hope to become one day. I have no doubt your children will achieve their dreams to solve global warming, become professional sports athletes, marine biologists, veterinarians, and mechanical engineers. Please stop by and read their aspirations.Thank you everyone for supporting our love for reading!

  2. Dear Mrs. Madden!
Thank you for letting me help decorate our classroom door! I loved hearing about what each of the children want to be when they grow up. We have quite a smart group of students that will make great engineers, doctors, electricians, environmentalists, marine biologists, artists, as well as many other types of jobs! I also enjoyed reading "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" to all of the students. What a super silly story!
    Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

  3. Dear Mrs. Madden,
I would like to wish all the students good luck as they read throughout the month of March! The more we practice reading out loud to others as well as quietly by ourselves, the better we get! I felt extremely lucky to be in the classroom during the partner reading between the second and first graders, Everyone worked together so nicely, We have wonderful (not to mention adorable) role models.
    Best,
    Ms. Rogers

  6. Dear Mrs. Madden,
When I was younger, my favorite Dr. Seuss story was "Horton Hears a Who." I had an elephant costume and at the park I would go around telling other kids I was Horton. I loved Horton so much! One day, I tried to get into the costume again but I barely managed to fit into it. Ha ha! I still love the message, A person's a person, no matter how small!
    Sincerely,
    Horton . . . aka Bea

    1. Dear Colin,
I think that's a brilliant idea, perhaps we can have another Read-In soon. Everyone was so quiet while reading, you could have heard a pin drop. And to Think that I Saw it on Mulberry Street is a classroom favorite, and Dr. Seuss' first book. Thanks for a great response to the blog post!
      Love, Mrs. Madden

  11. Dear Mrs. O'Leary,
Thank you for taking time off your day to come and see us. I liked the book "Many Colored Days". My favorite part was the green day because it's my favorite color.
