Disability Awareness Starts Here

The children were engaged during our first DASH session where they learned
what it might be like to have a visual impairment.

Shea looks through a piece of wax paper to simulate what a visually impaired person might see.

Noah looks through a pin hole to see what it would be like to have tunnel vision.

Charlie uses his sense of touch and smell to determine a mystery object.

Surprise Reader

Two big sisters surprised their siblings with a visit and two very silly stories.
Thank you Jessica and  Caroline.

Museum of Science Assembly on Forces and Motion

We will be studying forces and motion in science soon and the children were excited to participate in activities that will help them understand how the two are connected.
Trevor is ready to raise Mrs. Mack using a simple machine called a lever!

Once we increased the distance, the work was much easier. Way to go Trevor!

Pajama Day & Our Class Read-In

It is amazing how much we love to read, and what better way than do so in our pjs.  The children were thrilled to come to school dressed in their pajamas and slippers and couldn't wait to start their reading.  Their book choices were appropriate and they were so focused you could have heard a pin drop!   We read for nearly 40 minutes, but when it was time to attend lunch they didn't want to stop. So we agreed they could continue their reading during indoor recess,  it is truly a pleasure to work with such determined readers!

The children were completely engaged in their reading, and this was one time I was thrilled when I couldn't get their attention!
Completely mesmerized !

Cozy Reading Corner!

Two readers in a bathtub.

What could be better than a good book and a few snacks?
Any spot is a good spot to read!
My favorite genre is non-fiction!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Mrs. Joyce Bergsten, a former Steward School second grade teacher visited our classroom to share one of Dr. Seuss' books with the children, to help us celebrate his birthday, and to kick-off Read Across America.
The children learned that this book was written by Jack Prelutsky using Dr. Seuss' ideas & pencil sketches.
Hooray for Diffendoofer Day!

Mrs. Bergesten reminded us that Dr. Seuss' real name was Theodor Geisel.
