Hola Lincoln

We were thrilled to connect with Lincoln visiting in Spain with his family via Skype.  It was wonderful to see his face and hear about his adventures in a country with so much to offer.

Lincoln answered many questions about how the food, time, language and weather are very different in Spain than in the U.S.

Everyone had a chance to share classroom news with Lincoln and we learned so much about his adventures in Espana!

We L-O-V-E you Ms. Ricard

Ms. Ricard has completed her student teaching practicum in our classroom and is preparing for her graduation ceremony this weekend.  We will miss her and are so appreciative of all she has taught us. Thank you Ms. Ricard for your enthusiasm and patience...our classroom is just not the same. Congratulations to you as you begin a new journey in education.

Dear Boys and Grirls,
For homework please write Ms. Ricard a letter using a minimum or 5-7 spelling words.  You may wish to tell her about your favorite memory, you may want to congratulate her on being a wonderful teacher and how she helped you to do your BEST work or you may want to let her know something special about you.  Be sure to use your spelling words correctly.
Love,
Mrs. Madden

A Whale of a Show

What a great kick-off as we begin our ocean animal unit in science !  Thank you Mrs. McGuinnis for bringing "Niles" to visit Steward School and sharing your expert knowledge of whales.  We learned so much from your presentation and are excited to learn more in our research of ocean animals.  We especially loved "crawling" into Niles' body to get a true sense of his body and how his adaptations help him survive in the ocean.

It was so much fun "seeing" first hand what a whale's organs look like.

Baleen is used as a filter to keep krill in and water out!.
Niles is a humpback whale that lives off the coast of New England. from Madden on Vimeo.

Ms. Ricard

Hello Parents of Mrs. Madden's classroom!

I officially began my "two week takeover" for my senior internship on Monday! I have been preparing for this role as the leading teacher throughout these past few months. Mrs. Madden is an amazing role model and has made this such an exciting and inspiring experience for me! I have developed a great rapport with the students and we have been off to a great start! On Monday, we began to learn about procedural text or "How to" writing. Together, the students have learned the necessary components required to make a proper "How to" writing piece. We have become quite knowledgeable chefs after learning how to make homemade pancakes and pizza this week! We have also been investigating in science and math to learn more about fractions and the Water Cycle. Look below to see some of the activities that the students and I completed!

Sincerely,
Ms. Ricard

On Monday we began our science unit on the Water Cycle!!

On Tuesday, we practiced comparing fractions and made colorful fraction flip book to help us remember our parts and our whole!

In math, we started our unit on fractions. Students used their flip books to label, compare and even to add fractions this week!
The students became serious scientists on Thursday and we performed an experiment with shaving and food coloring to model the stages of  condensation and precipitation in the Water Cycle!

This upcoming week will be filled with even more experiments, activities, and exciting experiences...stay tuned!
