A Whale of a Show

What a great kick-off as we begin our ocean animal unit in science !  Thank you Mrs. McGuinnis for bringing "Niles" to visit Steward School and sharing your expert knowledge of whales.  We learned so much from your presentation and are excited to learn more in our research of ocean animals.  We especially loved "crawling" into Niles' body to get a true sense of his body and how his adaptations help him survive in the ocean.

It was so much fun "seeing" first hand what a whale's organs look like.

Baleen is used as a filter to keep krill in and water out!.
Niles is a humpback whale that lives off the coast of New England. from Madden on Vimeo.

  1. Dear Mrs. Madden,
my favorite part of our Steward School field trip was when skates mouths looked like smiley faces.
I never thought that humpback whale can eat as much as 2,000 pounds of plankton every day.
It is a little greedy when Nile steals fish from other whales so he can eat breakfast.

    Trey

P.S. So I think Nile will win the stealing food contest.
