Summer Memories
Dear Second Graders,
I hope you've been enjoying your summer and are looking forward to a new year of fun and learning. Summer is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with family and friends, and I've enjoyed every moment of my summer vacation doing just that. I've spent much of my vacation reading books, watching breathtaking sunsets and relaxing at the beach, but one of my favorite memories so far has been teaching my three grandchildren how to swim in Lake Winnipesaukee.
Please post a comment below and tell me about your favorite summer adventure. Be sure to tell me all the exciting details and remember to write your first name only. I can't wait to see you on the first day of school and hear more about your adventures.

Dear Belle,
ReplyDeleteWOW...your summer news is so exciting, congratulations to you and your family! I know how excited you must be to have a new baby sister in your family and I'm sure you will be a big helper to your mom and dad. My daughter, Samantha just had a baby girl on August 20th, her name is Bailey. I can't wait to see pictures of your growing family, don't babies smell beautiful? I just love when they smile at you too. :)
Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation and thank you for sharing your amazing news.
Love,
Mrs. Madden
Hello Second Graders!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Ms. Hagberg and I will be spending the first half of the school year in your classroom, learning how to become a teacher. I am beyond excited to be able to help you learn throughout these next few months as well as learn for myself. I cannot wait to meet each and every one of you!
As Mrs. Madden said, I hope you have all enjoyed your summers. I, fortunately, got to spend my summer in the Berkshire Mountains as a camp counselor for 9 weeks. I had a bunk of ten 9 year old girls and absolutely loved it. We did everything from boating, to gymnastics, to flying on a trapeze, and even zip lining. Although I had many, I would have to say my favorite memory was staying up late and stargazing outside of our bunk. I have never seen so many shooting stars in my life. My camp experience was truly amazing. I am sad to see summer coming to an end, but I'm also counting down the days until I get to meet you all and begin another truly amazing experience. Enjoy these last few days and I'll see you in the classroom!
Love,
Ms. Hagberg
Dear Mrs. Madden

I got braces and spacers to help straighten my teeth. Also I went to 4 camps! I am so excited to be in your class this year.
Ella
W-O-W Ella,
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have had an amazing summer full of so many exciting adventures. Your trip to New York sounds like so much fun, I can imagine watching Aladdin on Broadway was fabulous. I have one question, how did they make the magic carpet fly? I am very excited to start school and I can't wait to hear more about your summer adventures.
See you very soon,
Mrs. Madden
Dear Mrs. Madden and Class,
ReplyDeleteI had a wonderful, wonderful summer. It is always difficult to pick my favorite adventure when I had so many. I enjoyed spending time at the lake with my family. Reading many great books while sitting out in the lovely weather, Meeting with friends (this usually involved eating as well). But I guess my favorite adventure was a trip to The Grand Canyon, San Francisco, and Seattle with my daughter and one of my sons. The sights were spectacular in all three places. I will share some pictures with you when we get back. I also want to see some Baby Bailey pictures!
See you all soon,
Mrs. Klipfel
Dear Mrs. Madden,
ReplyDeleteMy favorite summer adventure was taking a road trip to Washington D.C. with my family. When I got there I took a long walk to the hotel. The hotel was really fancy. We could see everything, but the closest thing was the Washington Monument. We met our great friends there that we had not seen in 3 years. We saw the ginormous, tall, monument of Washington D.C. The White House is really beautiful. There was a fence between us and the White House. We went to the World War II Memorial and the Vietnam War Memorial . It was really cool. We stayed there for four days.
I can't wait to get back to school with you and learn lots of math and study things!
Madelyn
Dear Madelyn,
ReplyDeleteYour vacation to Washington D.C. sounds fabulous. I can't wait for school to start so you can tell me more about all you saw and learned. We will be studying the branches of the government and I have a feeling that you might have a few facts to share with the class. Later in the year we will play Jeopardy and "test our knowledge" about our local, state and country's government. I love math too and I've been working hard this summer to develop some fun math games that I know you're going to love playing. So enjoy the last few days of your summer vacation and I will see you soon.
Love.
Mrs. Madden
Dear Mrs. Madden,
ReplyDeleteMy favorite adventure was going to Rochester New York at my Grandma and Grandpas lake house. I had fun swimming in the lake and jumping off of my grandma and grandpas trampoline into the water. I also had fun sitting on the trampoline in the steaming hot sun. I caught my first bass off of my grandpas boat. I also liked eating donuts for breakfast that my grandpa bought me and my brother. Rochester was really fun.
Thomas
Dear Thomas,
ReplyDeleteHow lucky you were to be able to spend such special time with your grandparents in New York. I can tell you enjoyed every moment with them and I can guarantee they loved sharing this time with you too. I have four grandchildren and I absolutely LOVE being with them whenever I can. Our newest granddaughter, Bailey was born just about a week ago and we're already in love with her. Congratulations on catching your first bass, did you take a picture of your amazing catch? I can't wait to hear all about your summer adventures and I promise we are going to have a year of fun and learning in second grade. See you very soon!

Dear Mrs. Madden,
ReplyDeleteI am excited for school but sad that summer is almost over! My favorite summer memory was going to karate camp. I made up a form with Sais with my friend. I also got to go wake boarding with my new wakeboard on Lake Sunapee. I love to wakeboard and waterski! I took a surf lesson in NH! I did a baseball camp at Masco with Masco players that was fun. I had a pool party with my first grade friends!
I am excited for second grade. I am really excited to read in the bathtub. I have been reading the Magic Tree House series this summer and I am on #26.
I can't wait to see you Thursday!
From,
Ben
Dear Ben,
ReplyDeleteYour summer vacation sounds like so much fun, I don't blame you for wishing it could last just a bit longer. Lake Sunapee is beautiful and how lucky to be able to water ski and wake board with all the beautiful beautiful weather we've had this summer, I live in New Hampshire and often drive to Rye Beach to watch the surfers, wouldn't it be funny if I saw you and didn't realize it? I'm so glad to hear you love reading the Magic Tree House books, because I love them too and have many in our classroom library, The bathtub is patiently waiting for its new second graders to snuggle in and read adventurous and informative books. Enjoy your last day of summer vacation and although I too am sad that summer is ending.... I am SO excited to return to school and share our second grade year together, see you soon.
Love,
Mrs.Madden
Dear Mrs. Madden,
ReplyDeleteOn my vacation I went to Rye Beach with our friends from Oregon and Milton. We had a big house. We went to the beach every day and we used our boogie boards a lot. We also took surfing lessons! It was so fun. I also went camping at Moosehead Lake, Maine. I saw three moose!! There was a beach for us to swim at around the lake, and at the end of the trip I got a coyote tail. I am very excited to see you tomorrow. I hope you had a great summer vacation!

Your trip to Maine sounds exciting, my goodness three moose, I think that might be a record. I guess that's why they call the lake Moosehead Lake.
