Field Trip to the Gloucester Heritage and Maritime Museum

A very special thank you to TESPTO for fully funding our recent field trip to the Gloucester Heritage and Maritime Museum.  The students were totally engaged in learning about the habitat of  ocean animals and how their adaptations help them to survive in their habitats.  They made fish prints, used microscopes to identify zooplankton, (animal) and phytoplankton (plant), handled a myriad of ocean animals at the touch tank and even saw the skeleton of Inland, the humpback whale.
Special thanks to our four parent chaperones...the children were beautifully behaved and proved themselves capable marine biologists!
Thank you again for your support.

Have fun,
Mrs. Madden

  1. Dear Mrs. Madden,
I have been to the same place as our field trip before with my family. I thought it was really fun and I saw a sea stars arm was healing by growing a new arm. These ocean animals were cool and funny because the skates would crawl on the windows to say hi. I had such a good time!

  2. My favorite part of the school field trip was when we got to look through microscopes to look for octo pods. I thought there weren't any microscopic creatures in the water, but now I know there are. I liked eating lunch in the valley with the house on top of it. It was such a cool day!

  3. Dear Mrs. Madden,
My favorite part of the field trip from school was when we looked through microscopes and saw these creatures called plankton. It was such a cool activity! The next morning at breakfast, I thought about the fun things we saw.

  4. Hi Mrs. Madden,

I had such a good time at the Gloucester Museum, it felt like I was at school because I learned a lot of new things about whales. I never thought that the field trip would be so much fun. My favorite part about the museum was to see the skeletons and to learn many facts about this wonderful creature, the whale (England). I wish we could walk through the big skeleton of England. That field trip to the Gloucester Museum was fantabulous!

    Sincerely,
    Eliza

  5. Dear Mrs. Madden,
My favorite part was when these skates came up to us and made a smile. There was about 6 to 7 I saw and they looked all the same. I thought that the whale skeleton was awesome. I wish that they would heal Inland. It was such a fun field trip.

The second grade at Steward school went on a field trip to Gloucester Heritage and Maritime Museum.
We saw zoo plankton and phytoplakton and thought it was cool.
Zooplakton and phytoplankton are not the same.
It was such a good field trip, it feels like I won a gold metal.

  7. Dear Mrs. Madden,
When I left school it was very exciting. I thought a starfish could not be that big. I liked looking through the microscope. No one acted greedy on the fieldtrip. My dad thought the skate looked the same as a stingray.
