Snow Days

Hi boys and girls,
W-O-W...can you believe how much snow has fallen in just a few days? I guess our "snow dance"  really worked after all. I hope you are all safe and enjoying these two snow days with your families.  I've been shoveling lots of fluffy snow, but I have to admit I've enjoyed being outside in the fresh air.  My favorite activity was when I went cross country skiing in my backyard.  The snow was deep and  light so it was a bit tricky. Today the sun is shining and it was thrilling to be outside, I was especially  surprised when I saw deer, rabbit and fox tracks along the trails.  I wonder how difficult it must be  for the animals to survive in such a strong blizzard?  I look forward to our next science lesson when  we can discuss animal adaptations, particularly about the animals that live all around us.

Here are a few photos from my backyard. Please write back to me and tell me what snow activities you've been doing these last few days.  Maybe you could measure how much snow is in your backyard and include it in your letter. Just click on the comment block below and tell me all about your snow adventures. :)

Love and miss you!
Mrs. Madden

Nearly 3 feet or almost 1 meter of snow has fallen in my backyard!
Be sure to wear your snow gear this week, because we will be estimating and measuring the snowfall using our meter sticks. What a perfect way for us to learn about the metric system!

Here I go... I'm ready for cross country skiing in the woods.
Thank goodness the temperature was so cold so the snowfall was light and fluffy...which made it so much easier to shovel.

Can you find the Adirondack chairs?  I bet "white crayon" would be very tired!

There are rabbits that live in the pine trees behind our shed.  I hope they've burrowed down deep and are warm and toasty.  I hope to see fresh rabbit tracks in the snow soon!

  1. Hi boys and girls, be sure to click on the words "no comments" so you can open the box and write about your snow day adventures. Be sure to dress in snow gear, including boots and snowpants so we can work in the snow the next two days.

  2. Hi Mrs. Madden,
I built a tunnel in the snow with my sister. We have been having fun playing in our yard. We drew on our glass sliding door to predict how high the snow as going to be. We guessed how much snow was going to come and I won!
    See you tomorrow

  3. Dear Mrs.Madden,
Quinn and me built a snow fort and had a snowball fight with my sister Riley and we knocked her snow blocks down and hit her two times. We won the snowball fight! We were sledding on the jump in my front yard on the hill. The snow was up to my thighs. It was so hard to walk. I think it's about 3 feet deep.

  4. Mrs. Madden,
I built a fort with my brother and played in the snow that the plow pushed in the end of our driveway. GAVIN

  5. Hi Mrs. Madden me and my brother made an igloo. We needed shovels and hockey sticks to poke at the igloo to make the snow fall down. We used another tool to dig softer snow to make the roof of the igloo for my brother and me. The tool was a broken plastic head of a beach shovel. We had so much fun in the snow.

  6. Hi Mrs. Madden,
I went sledding down my huge driveway with my brother Andy. It was my moms birthday yesterday so we celebrated with a lunch out at Supinos and a Carvel Ice Cream cake! It was so good.
It snowed 40 inches at my house and we have a rock wall that has become invisible! My brother had a BAD idea me and Andy.
Tried to walk in the backyard, and the snow was up to my neck. I fell forward and lost my boot! My feet were frozen. I could not get out. I thought I was getting hypothermia!

  7. Hi Mrs Madden,
Wednesday, I spent the day outside building Igloos with Olivia and Daddy. Daddy was shoveling the driveway as we finished digging out our new homes. After we played, we went inside and had hot cocoa. Later, when my Mommy came home from work we baked cookies. The day filled our heart with joy.
I hope you had a great day too.

  8. Hi Mrs. Madden,
I spent my snow days shoveling snow at my aunt's store, playing with my neighbors and sledding down huge hills. My brother and I built an awesome snow fort with windows that you can actually look out. Too busy having fun to be bored!

  9. Hi Mrs. Madden,
I had so much fun that I had to cram all of my homework in the day before school started again! I built 3 snow forts, went sledding down the big hill in my backyard, I skiied at Bradford, and I built a snowman. Also I had hot chocolate by the warm fire and played a new game, Pic Wits, with Joe, Will and my Mom. I was tired from all my work and snuggled up in bed with a book.
